- "How to Bathe and Clean your Cat"
| Bathing your Cat If you own a cat, you would already know how hard it is to bathe a cat and how much they hate water and getting wet. Here's a set of instructions that would hopefully help you through. For beginners, you might want to get 1 person to help you. 1. Fill the tub with 4 to 5 inches of water depending on your cat's size. 2. Place some padding or a towel in the tub so that the cat has comfortable footing. 3. Have cat shampoo and 3 cloths ready; 1 cloth for washing and 2 for drying. 4. Comb your cat's fur thoroughly before placing it in the water tub, to ease the washing and bathing process. 5. Cats will definitely wriggle and try to escape when being bathed, so make sure you have a firm grip on their neck and shoulders. 6. Now start bathing your cat starting from the neck and proceed downwards. Use an appropriate wash cloth and cat shampoo. Avoid washing their eyes, nose, mouth and ears. |

7. Once done with the shampooing, rinse the cat thoroughly. Keep rinsing the cat with clean warm water until the coat of shampoo is gone. 8. Dry the cat with a towel, preferably warmed using a dryer, and change towels once they gets soaked. 9. Finally, place your cat on a soft cloth in an area that's well ventilated. Do not over-bathe your cat; at most once every 2 weeks. Body Brushing - An Alternative to Bathing Brushing is an alternative to bathing, and can be done often because cats love it. Get an appropriate brush and comb at a pet store. Brushing is best done outdoors. Place your cat on your lap in a comfortable position for your cat and brush it. Brush gently and comb areas where there are tangled fur. If your cat bites, kicks or tries to escape, it's because you're brushing on areas they don't want to be brushed, so avoid those areas. You might want to keep some cat snacks handy to keep them from running away. |
| Brushing Cat Teeth Brushing a cat's teeth is not an easy task but once you get the hang of it, it'll be a breeze for both of you. So first of all you have to get your cat used to the brushing feeling by dipping your finger in tuna water, chicken broth or anything he adores. Once your finger is inside his mouth, rub gently on his gums and teeth. Then, wrap a soft gauze around your finger and repeat the process. After your cat is used to the feeling, you will be able to proceed using proper toothbrush and toothpaste for cats. Cat Nails Another essential aspect of a cat's health is trimming its' nails. It's not just a part of grooming. If nails aren't trimmed, they break and bleed easily because of the vein that runs in their nails and this could even cause death. The best way to trim your cat's nails is to do so in small amounts on a regular basis. But you must be careful to not trim too far behind and injure the vein (the pink part in the nail). Well, you could just take him to the vet. |
